Two Important Announcements

SHAF Members,

Two Important Announcements

With Spring approaching we want to make you aware of a couple upcoming SHAF events.

Saturday March 12 – SHAF Work Day – 9:00 a.m. until as long as you want to stay. Location – the Reel Farm, directly across the road from the entrance to Antietam National Battlefield. Please DO NOT park in the NPS parking lot. You may park in the abandoned farm across Hagerstown Pike from the NPS parking lot, and walk over to where we will be cutting brush and small trees, etc. We do not recommend parking on the shoulder of the Rt. 65 bypass to the battlefield.

Please bring gloves, tools if you have them, water, a packed lunch, or there are places nearby for food. Dress for the weather, and we will postpone the event if there is steady rain. (Or snow, anything can happen in Maryland in March!) Watch the SHAF website & Facebook page for postponing notices. Chain saws permitted, if you desire, and are experienced, but please use it safely! Hand saws, loppers, etc. are fine. Hearing protection is strongly recommended, we need people to feed cuttings into a large, loud chipper. We look forward to seeing you there.

Saturday April 30, SHAF Annual Membership Meeting – 10:00 am Pry Farm Barn – We think it will be safe to meet in-person again in April, and plan to have our usual annual report of our activities, nominations & elections of Board members, report of finances, and input from our members. SHAF Board member Sharon Murray will give a lecture on Col. B. F. “Grimes” Davis, and we will have SHAF shirts, hats, etc., for sale and lots of Civil War and general history books for sale, cheap!! All proceeds benefit SHAF.

After the meeting those who wish to may visit our recent property purchase and take in the view of the Final Attack field from there. We will also discuss the route of A.P. Hill’s troops to the field and what troops occupied the land that we purchased. All SHAF members, and prospective members welcome! Masks will be optional.

We look forward to seeing you this spring!

THANK YOU!

Tom
